Loeb back in front. MacHales fail to finish.
Gareth MacHale seeded at 10 with Austin at 14!! Full Entry List Available
Loeb back on song in Mexico Reigning World Rally Champion, Frenchman Sebastian Loeb, was back on song in this weekend's Rally Mexico, the fourth round of the World Rally Championships (WRC). After a disastrous event in Norway two weeks ago where he failed to pick up any points, Loeb showed the form that has secured him the driver's championship three years running by finishing almost a minute in front of Finland's Marcus Grohnholm in his BP Ford Focus.
Grohnholm snatched back second place from team-mate and fellow countryman Mikko Hirvonnen on the third and final day of the event, which took place in the mountains high above Mexico city.
Ireland's father and son team Austin and Gareth MacHale failed to finish the rally. Gareth and co-driver Paul Nagle broke a track arm on a rock on Special Stage 13 and were forced to retire. It was a disappointing blow for the pair, who had been sitting in ninth place until then. Austin MacHale and co-driver Brian Murphy went off road and rolled their car on the second test of the day and were also forced to retire. Both Austin and Brian were uninjured.
The next event in the WRC calendar is Rally Portugal which is making its debut in the Championships from 30 March to 1 April. Rally Ireland, the third new round in the championships this year, will take place from 15-18 November Full results on World Rally News Download the Full Entry List here www.garethmachale.com Gareth MacHale seeded at 10 with Austin at 14!!
The Rally... Crews competing in the 2007 Corona Rally México can be assured they will be contesting one of the most innovative, well-organized and hospitable events in the entire FIA World Rally Championship. Our event not only presents a varied and challenging route, but an adventure and a real insight into the wonderful world of the Mexican lifestyle, including the legendary fiesta.
Everyone is welcome at Corona Rally México and for this reason we have maintained our entry at 80 cars. In 2007, the event is once again a qualifying round of the FIA Production Car World Rally Championship and we are expecting a host of registered crews to contest the event. For all our national and international Group N competitors, this provides a fantastic opportunity to pit themselves against some of the world's finest drivers in this category. With the inclusion of the super special stages, Corona Rally México’s provisional itinerary now takes in 20 stages over a total distance of 850 kilometers. With 369 kilometers of competition - 43% of the total distance - the route remains compact and never strays further than 50 kilometers from the Poliforum, rally headquarters for the third consecutive year. The start of Corona Rally México, on Thursday 8 March, will once again be marked by its spectacular opening ceremony in the extraordinary City of Guanajuato, where tens of thousands of fans cram the narrow streets to cheer on their new heroes. The opening leg on Friday 9 March is rounded off by the first run through the dual lane, mixed surface super special stage at the León Race Track. Saturday’s stages take the crews over another two identical loops of three stages before returning to the ‘Super Special’, while the only change to the final leg is that the longest stage of the 2006 rally (Leon) will be split in two stages before the climax of the event back at the León Race Track. |
