BUMPER ENTRY FOR NENAGH CAR RALLY
This Sunday 22nd of February sees the Birr & District Motor Club host it's annual Car Stages Rally based in North Tipperary.
Headquarters and main sponsors for this prestigious rally will be the Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh. Over 180 Rally Cars will contest this Rally, which is the opening round of the Dunlop National rally championship, Top Part West Coast and Midland Motors Athlone, Midlands East Rally Championship. This year we are delighted to have the Dunlop National Rally Championship on board. As a club we have never got the chance to run an event with this championship and we are privileged to have it on board this year.
Leading away the Entry will be Gareth McHale (Son of Rally icon Austin) driving an opel corsa S2000, the car will make its debut competing on the north Tipp tarmac this Sunday. Number 2 Patrick Elliot reining Dunlop national rally champion, 3 will be Nial Maguire twice winner of the Dunlop series. At 4 is Kevin Barrett a regular supporter of Birr events through the years.Welcome UK visitor James Harrison at 5 making a return following a break from rallying.Top 5 drivers are all driving Subaru Impreza World Rally Cars except for top seed Gareth Mc Hale.
At 6 Top group N seed is Clares Anthony O'Halloran and Clonakilitys Kevin Kelleher is in at number 7 both in Mitsubishis evos.In at 8 is Brian O Mahoney in his super1600 Renault Clio a regular competitor in the Dunlop championship and also having competed in the world rally championship. At 9 we have Eamon Daly in another Mitsubishi evo, and Sean Flanagan in his Subaru N12 in at number 10.Rounding out the top 12 is Thomas Fitzmaurice and Adrian Quinn both driving Mitsubishi evos.
Top 2wd contenders include Trevor Mulligan, Mike Quinn,Top Part 2008 west coast rally championship winner Ed Synan, and Gary Reidy all driving mk2 escorts and also Birr crew Davy Percy with John Kinihan on the notes in there ford escort maxi. In addition Fergal Costello of midland motors Athlone will make his Birr Rally Debut in his Mitsubishi evo.

This Sundays is the product of 8 Months hard work led by the Clerk of the Course Cathal McGrath (Carrigatogher) and his dedicated team of volunteers who put long hours and serious work into organising this rally. 

Mechanical Scrutiny for all cars takes place at the NCT centre, Dublin Road on Saturday 21st February from 2pm till 9pm. First Car leaves the start which is located at the Abbey Court Hotel Nenagh on Sunday Morning at 8.15am. The Service Area will be located in the Livestock Mart in Nenagh on Sunday with the opening stage in Kilbarron, followed by Ballymakey.In the afternoon the crews will tackle silvermines/Killoscully/Burgess area. It is anticipated that traffic in these areas will be busy and all motorists travelling in this area should allow extra time to complete their journeys. 

Maps and Programmes for the rally will be available to purchase in the following outlets from Friday onwards: Nenagh, Abbey Court Hotel, Costello's Shop near the Mart, Mulrooney's Service Stations Borrisokane Road & Ballywilliam and Cleary's Garage on the Limerick Road. Other outlets include Casey's Service Station Toomevara,Gleesons service station portroe and Sullivan's Ardcroney near Borrisokane.

Like with every other rally we require Marshall's and anybody that is interested should contact the Chief Marshall on 086-8179297 for more details. 

If you are intending to spectate at the rally Please THINK SAFETY at all times and obey the Marshall's instructions as they are there for your safety, and remember "THINK ROAD SAFETY"
