Making the announcement. Bobby Clinton Chairman of the TROA Ltd. the organisers of the Championship, stated that he was especially pleased to welcome Global Group International as the new title sponsor, especially in view of the fact that current competitors Noel Mc Carrick and Tom Gormley are Directors of the company. "Global Group International are keen to raise our profile in the Irish and UK markets and we see the Tarmac Championship as a high profile vehicle (If you pardon the pun!) to help us achieve this. The television coverage of the Championship is extensive and was one of the primary reasons for our decision to partner the TROA " said Global Group International's Noel Mc Carrick. Championship Manager Don Wilmont indicated that the Championship would be known as the Global Group Irish Tarmac Rally Championship. "Sponsorship is a business arrangement and I very much look forward to working with Noel and his colleagues in Global Group International to raise the profile of both Global Group and the Tarmac Championship," concluded Wilmont.
